What's new?

Besides a new translation of the Mass?  Or the Mass setting we sing?  Or the liturgical year?

Well, HeartBEAT is moving to a new day and a new place!  Since you so graciously helped me furnish a new music classroom at IHM School, we’re moving it over to that new rehearsal space.  And it’s switching to Thursday afternoons at 3:30.  HeartBEAT is our percussion ensemble, open to kids 4th grade and older as well teenagers and adults.  So if you want a little rhythm in your life, we encourage both new and experienced percussionists to join us.  Or, if you just want to support us, donate a percussion instrument from our Amazon.com wish list, which you can access there by typing in music@ihmbrooklyn.org.  HeartBEAT also has a new logo!  If you recall, last year we held a contest for one, and while we received several catchy and creative logos, we finally chose the one that was easiest to read when it appears very small in the bulletin, which you can see on page ?.

Another group that MIGHT be new is a children’s handbell choir!  This would be for kids in 2nd – 5th grades, and would meet Monday’s at 3:30.  “Ringers” would learn how to “catch” notes and rhythms, and reproduce them, just as they are taught how to catch a ball.  Let me know if you know anyone interested.  Either of these ensembles would augment a child’s cognitive, physical and social development; and increase their coordination, body awareness and self-confidence; while building a sense of community.

Lastly, we have a concert coming up next week on Sunday, December 11 at 4:30 p.m. (just prior to the Annual Lighting of Trees and Angels) to finally dedicate our “new” piano, a tradition churches do when they gain an instrument.  But it’s not going to be your typical piano recital!  Our very own parishioners will sing and pay homage to both the instrument and the Christmas holiday in this festive cabaret “from our heart”…
