Trading Places!

Traveling to neighboring communities was Jesus’ style of ministry; and so in that same spirit, musicians from three neighboring parishes will rotate to each others churches next Sunday, February 27!

With our variety of musical styles from traditional Latin to contemporary English, our Choir and HeartBEAT will enrich the 10:30 celebration at Holy Name of Jesus.

Since 1987, the Holy Name Ensemble’s goal has been to get the entire congregation to participate and join in the 10:30 Mass.  But next week, this group that specializes in contemporary as well as traditional music will be bringing their blend of vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar and piano to St. Saviour’s 11:30 Mass.

And St. Saviour’s Director of Music, Iouri Grichetchkine (who plays Brooklyn’s only weekly Jazz Mass Sunday’s at 5:00) will lend his talents to our 11:45 Mass.

But this isn’t just a game of musical chairs and organ benches!  It allows each musician and ensemble to introduce their own flair and interpretation to a different parish.  And each congregation gets to worship in a slightly different style, offering the opportunity to sing and listen with renewed vigor.  Our goal in sharing our musical gifts with those around us is discipleship and spiritual growth, not just the excitement of “going on tour” to “wow” a new crowd.  And we hope this sparks even more musical collaboration with other parishes!

Of course, we want to hear what you think of this musical evangelization.  So if you attend one of these three Masses next week – 10:30 at Holy Name of Jesus, 11:30 at St. Saviour’s or 11:45 at Immaculate Heart of Mary – call or email to share your feedback!
