The Diocesan Music Commission

I’m proud to announce that the Vicar General, Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano, on behalf of Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, has appointed me to serve as a member of the Diocesan Music Commission for the next three years.

The Music Commission maintains Diocesan guidelines on music and worship that preserves the orthodoxy of our worship in the Diocese. It’s available for consultation regarding the repair, upgrading or purchase of musical instruments for parish use, particularly organs. (Our parish will be seeking advice from it as we launch our own organ restoration project within the next few years.) It may also be consulted regarding sacred music or choir-related issues; and it keeps a database of available musicians. Mr. Emmanuel M. Bologna and Ms. Jessica Tranzillo are its Co-Chairpersons, and Reverend Frank C. Tumino, Executive Secretary of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, guides its overall work.

The Music Commission also plans and provides music for Diocesan liturgies. This past Holy Week I was a chorister and pianist for the Chrism Mass, and last Sunday I was one of the cantors for the Vespers Service for the Installation of Deans, both at the Cathedral Basilica of St. James.
