Say Thanks With Music!

This week, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us “In all circumstances, give thanks”.  So why not thank someone with a gift of music?

We all know people we’ve been meaning to thank, but haven’t gotten around to it.  And to feel gratitude without expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it to anyone.  So don’t wait for a special occasion to buy a CD or iTunes gift card, do it today!  Treat someone to concert tickets!

But you don’t have to spend money to say thanks either.  Websites like Twitter and blip.fm allow you to legally share music.  Write or type out the lyrics of a song that makes you think of someone and send it to them.  Share one of your own CD’s and give it to someone, explaining that you hope they get as much enjoyment from this music as you have.  Take someone to a free concert.  Let somebody else choose the music at home or in the car, and thank them for introducing you to it.  Surprise your spouse with romantic music while thanking them.  When’s the last time you sang to your child?  (Who cares if you can’t carry a tune, it’s the enthusiasm that counts!)  American psychologist and philosopher William James said “The deepest craving of human nature is the need to feel appreciated.”

There are also plenty of songs that say it for you.  Led Zeppelin, Sly and the Family Stone, Bleach, Simple Plan, Alanis Morrisette, Jamelia and Dido all have hits simply titled Thank You.  Bon Jovi sings Thank You for Loving Me, Abba says Thank You for the Music and Mariah Carey offers Thank God I Found You.  Bob Hope will always be remembered for Thanks for the Memories

So thank someone you’ve been meaning to!  And I don’t need to tell you how many ways you can give thanks to God with song…
