Help Build Our Music Classroom!

As our Music Ministry continues to expand, this fall I’ll be teaching students in Kindergarten through 5th grade at IHM School general music instruction.  And music class isn’t just singing songs!  I’ll teach them the language of music and how it works using toys and techniques that encourages their creative and critical thinking while improving their problem solving and reasoning.  And relating these new musical skills to what they are studying in both their general education and their religious instruction reinforces these other subjects for a more “whole-istic” education.

Parish schools exist because the communities want them, and this inclusiveness is at the heart of their purpose.  But they’ll always need the help and support of their parish.  So here at Immaculate Heart of Mary, have a heart!  Volunteer either at the school or for our Religious Education program.  Help fund-raising activities.  Attend events, parent assemblies or acts of worship organized by the school.  Pray for them.  And most urgently, help build our music classroom!

We need to bring the magic of music to the school!  We need fun, creativity and color!  Most of our funds are going for the big stuff, like a piano or keyboard.  So if you can give us something smaller we need but can’t afford right now, items purchased from our Wish List on Amazon.com will automatically be shipped to us!  And many of these things are very inexpensive!

Our Wish List is called IHM Music Classroom.  Or if you know how to obtain any of them through some other means, let me know!  And if you have music or an instrument you wish to donate, just ask if it's something we would have use for.  And remember, any non-cash gift-in-kind is still tax deductible!  Call the rectory at (718) 871-1310 if you need assistance making a purchase!  For more details on this and other programs in our parish, visit the new Youth page on our Music Ministry’s website!
