Enter the Journey!

Enter the journey.  Come to the song.
By God you are chosen by name you are called
to follow the vision, carry the cross.
Enter the journey of faith as the fam'ly of God.

Originally written for RCIA, (the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) this song by Mark Friedman and Janet Vogt takes on particular intensity during Lent as we relive various journeys through the scripture readings: Adam and Eve leave Paradise; Jesus goes through the desert; Peter, James and John ascend the mountain; and eventually Jesus journeys to Jerusalem.  So can we embark on a musical journey as well?

We actually started one on Ash Wednesday.  Gerard Chiusano, pastoral associate for music ministry at Our Lady of the Holy Angels in Paterson, NJ composed With These Ashes to draw us into a deeper realization of God's love as we began the Lenten journey that calls for acts of prayer, fasting and charity.

With these ashes, we know your love, O Lord.
With these ashes, we turn our hearts to you...
Joining together on this journey with you,
we walk these forty days and nights...

Next week we'll continue our journey with a song by a friend of Fr. Robert, Fr. Ricky Manalo, CSP, who's an accomplished musician, composer, lecturer and author.

In these days of Lenten journey
we have seen and we have heard
the call to sow justice in the lives of those we serve.

But we aren't just called to “sow justice.”  Remember that in Enter the Journey we “are called to follow the vision, carry the cross.”  So like the Lenten reminder you picked up today in church – a small wooden cross – we'll sing musical reminders to Take Up Your Cross and Lift High the Cross

Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim
till all the world adore his sacred name.
