cuori BELLissimi!

Our young handbell choir, called cuori BELLissimi! that plays semi-regularly at 11:45
AM Mass, will resume its weekly Wednesday afternoon rehearsals starting this week on September 16th in the Good Shepherd!

But, there’s a new change this year, since we now have both handchimes and handbells! From 3:15 – 3:45
PM, only 5th – 8th graders will rehearse on the 25-note, 2-octave set of hand chimes parishioners graciously bought us last year. Then at 3:45 PM, 2nd – 4th graders may join the rehearsal already in progress and ring the KidsPlay® set of handbells a parishioner bought us years ago. At that point, the older kids can either 1) be dismissed or 2) hopefully stay and mentor the younger ringers.

Becoming a “ringer” develops team work; social interaction and provides general music training. It helps anyone studying another instrument. And becoming a mentor enables students to improve their own self-esteem; feel more productive and develop a better attitude about helping others.

At the end of each rehearsal, we pause so the ringer
s can enjoy a snack, then we walk them over to Brooklyn Prospect Charter School for their Faith Formation classes. But even though I’ve conveniently scheduled it between school and religious education, it’s not a baby-sitting service! Students should want to be involved; have a willingness to learn and a commitment to attend regularly (a lack of responsibility toward attendance is a strong detriment to any group. Ask any coach.)

So if you know a student who might be interested, print out the registration from below, or pick one up in the rectory or from me. (There’s no fee.) And if you’re an adult who might be willing to volunteer to alternate supervising rehearsals, let me know!
