Join cuori BELLissimi!

This summer, I started a children’s handbell choir called cuori BELLissimi!  The kids got to learn basic music notation, how to properly ring handbells, and played once at 11:45 Mass!

The 45-minute rehearsals for children in 2nd – 5th grades will resume this Wednesday, October 3 at 3:30 pm in the Good Shepherd, and will continue weekly on Wednesday afternoons.

Becoming a “ringer” develops team work; artistic expression; social interaction and self-esteem.  It also provides training and self-discipline in motion skills.  And since each member is needed, each one feels wanted.  It might surprise you to know that musical ability is NOT the most important characteristic to be successful!  A good ringer must want to be involved; have a willingness to learn and a commitment to attend every rehearsal (a lack of responsibility toward practices is a strong detriment to any group.  Ask any coach.)  It requires basic eye-hand coordination and a sense of a rhythmic beat.

There’s no fee, though in addition to the child’s name and grade I need to know a parent’s name and contact info, (phone and email) and if your child is NOT attending Faith Formation who will be picking them up at 4:15.  I also need to know which weekend Mass you usually attend, since this is a performing ensemble and the goal is to play at some Masses.

I also hope two more adult volunteers will volunteer to alternate supervising a rehearsal once a month.  All adults must be VIRTUS, and this training will be provided at Immaculate Heart of Mary.  Following each rehearsal, we’ll walk the children over to Brooklyn Prospect Charter School for their Faith Formation classes.  Though I’ve conveniently scheduled it between school and religious education, it’s not a baby-sitting service.  If you child is planning on attending, please let me know in advance, so I can have the proper amount of materials ready.
