A Prelude to Comfort Your Heart...

Each year as we celebrate The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day), the faith community of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish gathers for a special Mass to minister to the grieving and brokenhearted; and to offer hope and healing with our thoughts and prayers. This year, it will be the anticipatory Mass on Saturday, November 1st at 5:00 pm.

Grief is a common human experience—whether it's the death of a loved one, the pain of divorce or some other loss—and we are all looking for an answer to our pain. Music may offer us a way out, helping us to move forward into the relief of comfort and peace. So next Saturday, November 1st I’m offering a 30-minute prelude before the 5:00 pm Mass of songs to help lift our spirits. Come listen and pray.

You’ll hear one of our favorite settings of the 23rd Psalm, Shepherd Me, O God and a bilingual setting of Matthew 11:28—Come to Me, All Who Labor/Vangan a Mi los Agobiados. The Gospel hymn His Eye Is On the Sparrow is also based on verses from the Gospel of Matthew. When the Christian rock band MercyMe recorded I Can Only Imagine, it was inspired by the death of the composer’s father, as he considered what it will be like in Heaven to stand before God. Daylight comes from Curtis Stephan’s CD Love Remains: Songs of Consolation, songs he recorded to comfort us during our darkest hours, whispering to our hearts that we are never alone. And ValLimar Jansen, who just led our Parish Mission, writes Exhortation, encouraging us to

walk with Love; walk with Faith; walk with Hope; walk with Peace.
Walk with Joy; know you can; because you can, if only you will.
