… Let peace fill our hearts, Let love fill our minds , Make us loving disciples of Christ.
May we all be one, May we all be yours
Abide, O Spirit of Life!

This text is adapted from a prayer attributed to St. Isadore, the Archbishop of Seville who used it at several church councils in the 7th century. It was his influence that promulgated a decree commanding all bishops to establish seminaries in their Cathedral Cities, similar to the one in Seville. This prayer was again used before each session of Vatican I which began in 1869, and Blessed John XXIII used it before each meeting of Vatican II in 1962-1965.

He and Blessed John Paul II are to be declared Saints next Sunday, April 27 in St. Peter’s Square. In preparation for this gift to the Church, Immaculate Heart of Mary parish family will gather for Vespers/Evening Prayer at 6:30 pm in the church Monday – Friday, April 21st – 25th.

The Liturgy of the Hours is the daily prayer of the Church, marking the hours of each day and sanctifying the day with prayer to fulfill Jesus' command to "pray always" (Luke 18:1). Latin for “evening”, Vespers is one part of the Liturgy of the Hours; the part that gives thanks for the day just past. It always includes the singing of a psalm and the Canticle of Mary (also called the Magnificat). This week it will also include reflection on the writings of St. John XXIII and St. John Paul II; and a new hymn, Abide, O Spirit of Life.

So come pray with us!
